Public Use Policy

The law library has a legal duty to avoid engaging in the unauthorized practice of law and/or the recommendation of attorney-client relationships. Therefore, the law library recommends that anyone taking legal action or considering whether or not such legal action is appropriate consult with an attorney. The law library will not provide interpretation of any legal material or give any legal advice. The law library will not provide assistance with personal technological devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, or storage devices.

The Library is to be used for legal research only.  Forms cannot be filled out in the library, and library staff cannot assist you with filling them out.

To do legal research, please make an appointment if possible, by calling (440) 329-5567. 

Librarians can assist finding specific resources in our hard copy collection.  Lorain County Law Library Staff cannot suggest specific resources, nor can they analyze, interpret or assist patrons with legal questions. 

Items do not circulate or leave the library.

Copies can be made for 10 cents per page.

Law Librarians can supply the phone numbers for the Lorain County Bar Association and The Legal Aid Society if you find that you would like to consult an attorney on a matter of law.

Computers on site cannot be used by public patrons.  They are electronic databases that are for the use of attorneys and the courts only.  Public computers can be found at the main branch of the Elyria Public Library.
